At Alton Bay Blinds of New England, we pride ourselves on treating you like family. We carry only the best window treatment options from Hunter Douglas, Norman, Alta, and Graber. Cellular shades from these high-quality companies can result in significant energy savings that will save you money month after month. To top it off, we can help you earn up to $1,200 in federal tax credits!

Energy Efficient Tax Credits and Personal Savings

Get rewarded for making environmentally friendly choices that will serve you month after month. Cellular shades are uniquely constructed, forming small, honeycomb-shaped cells from fabric. When these are against your window, they trap air. As they stop this air, they press against your window, creating an insulating layer that prevents further heat transfer. Since about 30% of energy escapes through windows, this can lead to significant savings as you save energy using cellular shades, and your energy bills decrease, leaving more money in your pocket.

This federal tax credit is part of the Federal Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, a law helping the United States meet its goals surrounding climate and energy. It's this superior energy efficiency of cellular shades that allows them to qualify for this federal tax credit.

How the Energy Efficiency Tax Credit Works

This tax credit is part of the Federal Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. Keep in mind that a tax credit directly lowers the amount you owe. It’s different than a tax deduction, which reduces the amount of your money subject to taxation before calculating your total due. This Energy Efficient Tax Credit lowers your bill dollar for dollar, either decreasing what you owe or increasing your refund.

Here’s what you need to do to get a Federal Tax Credit:

  • Purchase eligible products between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024.
  • Save your invoice and submit it with your tax documents.
  • The credit covers up to 30% of what you spend on the window treatments, including sales tax, up to a maximum annual amount of $1,200. It does not include measurement or installation.
  • Print out your Manufacturer’s Certificate Statement and turn it in with your tax document.
  • You will need this certificate if you purchased your Hunter Douglas window treatments on or before May 29, 2023.
  • You will need this certificate if you purchased your Hunter Douglas window treatments after May 30, 2023, including any time in 2024.
  • If you purchased Alta window treatments, you will need this certificate.

Why Automation for the Federal Tax Credit?

Motorizing your window treatments makes them more energy efficient. They allow you to schedule when your window treatments are open or closed and makes using your window treatments effortless. Instead of adjusting them manually, operate them via the remote, phone app, or other smart home device.

If you have a Google or Amazon device, you can manage your window treatments with other Smart technology, like your Smart Thermometer. This saves energy because if your home gets warmer or cooler than your specified temperature, it will first trigger your window treatments to close instead of your home’s furnace or AC, saving you energy.

This is important to managing our environmental footprint, making it part of the Federal Tax Credit requirements.
